Hello everyone, this thread is about my new rig. http://pcpartpicker.com/p/cNqzpg

Date: in 7 days. Budget Range: 1400-1750€… (€ prices are similar in $).
System Usage: I require a good amount of processing power (VS.Net) & I like games so I want a great graphic performance too.
No monitor, all components, Ive got Windows 8.1
You can recomend any component/website, I'll buy them in www.pccomponentes.com (spanish sorry) but they have most known brands.
Overclocking: No, maybe in a cuple of years. SLI or Crossfire: No.
Your Monitor Resolution: 1920x1200 or 2500x1080.

PCPartPicker part list / Price breakdown by merchant

CPU: Intel Core i7-4790K 4.0GHz Quad-Core Processor ($338.95 @ OutletPC)
Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-Z97X-UD5H-BK ATX LGA1150 Motherboard ($184.98 @ SuperBiiz)
Memory: G.Skill Ripjaws X Series 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR3-1866 Memory ($159.99 @ Newegg)
Storage: Samsung 840 EVO 500GB 2.5" Solid State Drive ($239.00 @ Amazon)
Storage: Seagate Barracuda 2TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive ($82.98 @ OutletPC)
Video Card: Gigabyte GeForce GTX 980 4GB Video Card ($549.99 @ Amazon)
Case: Lian-Li PC-7HA ATX Mid Tower Case ($99.99 @ Mwave)
Power Supply: Corsair CSM 650W 80+ Gold Certified Semi-Modular ATX Power Supply ($93.95 @ Amazon)
Optical Drive: Asus DRW-24B1ST/BLK/B/AS DVD/CD Writer ($16.99 @ Newegg)
Total: $1766.82

That CPU + MBoard together have an offer of 45€ refund.
Initially I wanted Ati Graphic C.,I think new games will take advantage of Ati tech because of consoles but last Tomshardware article I read ? GTX 980 eats 290X and costs more or less the same.
I picked that MB because I read some nice things about it, it has everything, also saw it in Q1 2014 B. marathon and that tells me will fit with RAM. Probably is what I'm less sure about.

I checked Haswell new CPUs+DDR4 but prices are just too high and I don’t think will worth that 400€ plus(5930K+ddr4):
5930K - 549€
Ashrock x99 extre4 - 225€
ddr4 16 GB - 240€
Everything else would be the same. gtx980, ssd, hdd, psu, case, fan.
Total Price - 2067€

What’s your opinion? Would you change anything?

Pro questions:
A - The old CPU multiplier way of OC still there?, Changing CPU multiplier, then speeds in CPU & RAM should be harmonized, match or something with multiplier?
What speed should I use for RAM?

B- This thing about SLI (I’ll not SLI)... Motherboard and 4790K are for 8x/8x that slows speed in a two 980 SLI configuration, no?. When this 8x/8x makes a real bottleneck? (extream processors and X99 MB are ready for 16x/16x or 16x/8x)… when this comes to play actually better?

I see tomshardware building marathon Q3 articles coming up, looking forward those expensive builds & seeing the performance of new graphic cards.

CPU multiplier is unlocked. Ram is tied to the base clock speed, not the CPU multiplier. You change the multiplier, only the clock speed of the CPU goes up.

Dual X8 is still sufficient for 2 card SLI. The X99 would be beneficial if running two, dual gpu, cards probably.

Logan thanks for your alternative, thought I don't want to do SLI, I always think of it as "In a year or so I'll buy new card and SLI" but that never happend... may be this time in a year or soo...

--K --> Multiplier unlocked, changing CPU multiplier changes GHzs. Ok. But I couldn't find in intel specks base clock or default multiplier.

About Ram. Long... long long time ago, when I was better at making builds I remember that I had to check and fit base CPU, RAM and Motherboard bus speed (boards had Y FSB speed and other components had K x Y speed)... FSB. And buying for instance a board with less base speed than the other components created bottlenecks. Many people I know didn't took that in mind and made really bad choices.

Technology has changed a big deal since then, things are not even called that way now. And my question is more of the type, there is any stuff like that that I should worry about? Nowadays I believe is easier and components are more standard but...

I'm a bit...well I'm quite rusty... and I dont want to fail because of that. I've seen awefull things : videocards of 300$ running like a 50$ cards because why should I buy new board?, CPU mounted without cpu thermal grease, and I remember RAM of 1.65volts (modules were cheaper) in first relieses of i7 builds burning processor DMAs... And last two things done by "professionals" in a real hardware shop...

Thats why I read/ask big time before I do nothing and I never trust the hardware seller in a shop.
I don't think my build had none of those flaws, but for instance I don't know what speed I can put to my RAM with and without OC.

Intel's base clock on current CPU's is 100. The default multiplier depends on the CPU. The 4790k would be a 40. Ripjaws ram will fit, just barely with a hyper 212. I used to run ripjaws in my system. You have to slide the ram facing fan up to remove or install ram. I only have ares kit now, because it was on sale, and I had another system that needed ram. I swapped my old ram, for the ram I have now, and put my old ram in the other system. The fan will pretty much sit right on top of the ram heatsink. I remember the FSB days. Intel has locked the base clock down. Ram has profiles to run at certain speeds and timings, and isn't affected by the base clock.

Yeah I agree, totally not worth it. I'm running a i5-3570K on my main rig and there really isn't any difference in performance between i7-4790K / i7-3770K / i7-5820K. I want to upgrade to X99 but I would be spending at least $1100 minimum and it's just not worth it.

That said here's what I would do and I'm using your site since what's available in the US and what's available in Spain may not always mix - with a nice black / red theme at that:

Case: NZXT H440 Black / Red - 110.00 €
PSU: EVGA Supernova P2 1000W - 174.00 €
Motherboard: MSI Z97 Gaming 5 - 147.00 €
CPU: 3.4GHz Intel Core i5-4690K - 222.00 €
Cooler: Corsair H100i - 109.00 €
RAM: 8GB G.Skill Trident X DDR3-2400 1.5V 2 x 4GB - 81.95 €
SSD: 250GB Samsung 840 Evo - 109.00 €
HD: 1TB Western Digital Caviar Blue - 50.95 €
Optical: None
GPU: Gigabyte Geforce GTX 980 - 569.00 €
OS: Windows 8.1 Pro - 129.00 €

Total: 1,701.90 €

everything you put in your build is great. If you are not planning any upgrades in the 5years to come take the i7 otherwise you can opt for the i5 and oc and plan your upgrades later.

You could also drop this lian li case, just cuz its lian li the pricetage is not justified. Get another case and fill it with fans. Way better investment.

This is what i would suggest u change. Have a look.

Ill break down too.

The CPU, the i5 is a great performer the price on the i7 does not justify the increase of 5-10 fps in just a few games and 100 mhz more.

The mobo is an awesome one and asrock is my personal favorite, although a sub of asus they perform way better imo never had 1 issue with asrock, but i had too many issues with asus msi and giga.

The cooler is a beast way better than the evo 212, but if u do not want to spend the extra ya go for the evo.

As for the ram, it is a rated 1.5v kit, with CL 7 at 1600. do not be mistaken 1600-1866 no difference at all u can only see them in synth benchmarks, in real time they will not do anything. however the CL7 timing does something, the ram is faster and this u will see a difference.

The cm case is better than the lian li u chose in all aspects, sorry but this is way too low for a lian and its pricetage. So i chose the CM and u can see i chose a great fan below, u can fill in all fan slots with the savings.

And the rest u picked are good.
