I don't have a lot of interest in overclocking at the moment and the research that I have done basically says that the 990 is better for overclocking and that is about it. But again, I don't know a lot about motherboards and I am fairly new to computer building.

Motherboard Authority say:
That mobo is supported for you cpu. But you should consider 990 as its better for oc and other stuff.

@sarinaide, but 970 chip supports upto 4800mt/s HT where 990 supports 5200mt/s. For more pci-e card, you will need that. As AMD said, there maybe some performance hamper due to low HT of 970. Though it will bottleneck any way.

I think if you won't overclocking, maybe you should use 970 chip's motherboard is too enough.
But if you have enuogh money I would prefer you go 990 chip's motherboard.
