Hey Gang, I've got a serious issue. My heart is pounding so hard right now! I just installed a new MSI R9 280 Twin Frozr GPU into my new rig, and within five minutes the card caught fire right near the PCI slot! Good thing I had the case open right next to me to catch it quickly.

I am really scratching my head right now on this one . . . I have a top notch EVGA Supernova G2 750W power supply, already tested before the GPU was put in. I have been running this computer all week and just put the GPU in today. I plugged in the 8pin and 6pin power to the GPU and was running a single monitor from the DVI port (no crossfire setup or anything). I was in the bios screen for my MSI Gaming 7 MOBO looking at the temperature charts when the card caught fire. I had yet to change any settings in the BIOS, this was the very first run of the card. The card was placed in the right x16 PCI slot on the MOBO and checked a dozen times before the first boot.

The area shorted out is the tan block just above the split in the PCI slot on the bottom of the card. The small cluster just above and to the right. Reference pic of the MSI R9 280

Man, and I took off all the whole weekend to play on this rig!! If you guys have any ideas about what happened I could really use some help, or if you think its possible to RMA this kind of situation, since it could be power supply or motherboard related, i'm curious about how to send this back.

Well thats the first time I heard this! Not really sure why and how this could have happened!
I would say from reading your description that its a GPU fault.

That's scary... Has it damaged the mobo?
