Alright, topic says it all. I have a cheap laptop for my kids that I received for free after a family member unfortunately decided to do drugs and go for a drive leading to his own demise. That said, I have Win 7 on this guy and Chrome runs like crap. On other 4+ core systems I have Chrome seems like the fastest. But now Internet X-plor-whore, seems faster.

The system after my upgrades has 8 GB of ram and an SSD to speed things up. Any tips would be helpful on this system that only has a pair of slow 1.6 Ghz AMD cores.

It should work just fine. The only thing you can still do is format to windows XP or maybe even ubuntu, or you could make a RAMdisk and move browser cache there.

You should be fine with 8gb ram. Got slow internet? Or more kids on it?

My connection is 100 Mbit, so I'm fine there and speedtest shows 32 Mbit downstream to the laptop. I just didn't know if someone knew of some settings to try to get the GPU more involved or less involved. I just really hate IE.

This is a fresh Win 7 install with the latest drivers. I just was wondering if someone knew of a miracle setting in about:config or something that would speed things up. Chrome can't watch a 720p Youtube clip without choking but IE can. The sad part is Chrome is more threaded than IE. I think I'm just at the mercy of a pair of 1.6 Ghz AMD cores.

What speed internet have you got?

What make and model router? Dual Band?

What wifi card/chip are you using?

Have you tried a usb wifi card?

How many people share your internet?

Are there walls or floors between your laptop and the router? How far away from it are you?
