I've had this system for 1 year, built it myself.

Specs:
i5-4670k
Gigabyte GA-Z87-HD3
AMD HD7850
8GB DDR3 RAM
Seagate SV35.5 1TB HDD
OCZ StealthXStream 600w PSU
Zalman Z11 Plus Chassis
Windows 7 Professional 64 bit

Recently it became really slow to boot. Actually, the booting itself doesn't take THAT long, but when it boots, the system is very slow for the first 3-4 minutes. And even after that, overall responsiveness of the system is mediocre, it's not any better than my office PC which runs on an AMD A10 APU.

Gaming performance is solid, no complaints there.

I'm thinking of getting an SSD, specifically a Samsung 840 Evo 250gb. Do SSD's only help with boot times or do they make the system quicker in other aspects?

Dont waste time or money. Just Re-Install Windows. You must be using a bad anti-virus or Lots of start-up apps.
Try
Start-->Run--"msconfig".
and disable start up apps.
Still I would really suggest to Re-Install Windows 7 again.
( Trust me. It slows you down because Windows never properly uninstall anything. It make so many folders in your "Program files" folder and other folder that its having a hard time to check it all.)
So re-install it and always Defragment . It will Boot fast.
