I want to build a computer that is capable of running programming software, Editing software, and games. I'm not entirely looking to build a gaming computer but something that will have enough resources to run these programs with out much lag, or difficulty. I am looking for running windows 7 on it. Keep in mind i do have the resources but i am a college student so i don't want to get into a pricey range. I'v never built a computer before but i do have some background in computers. Can someone point me in the right direction?

pcpartpicker.com is a really good website that allows you to find the best price for parts and will also prevent you from making any choices that are incompatible.

You would want an intel build as those cpus as they will just handle all of your tasks better.

If doing video encoding then it is best to have two different drives so that it can read to one and write to another. I would get at least 1 SSD drive for OS/Programs and at least 1 if not two hard disk drives for backups and file storage.

If budget allows for it I would go for an i7, but if not an i5 would be decent enough.

As far as grahics a GTX 750 ti would allow you to play most games on medium or better, you can always get a better gpu if in your budget.

We can get you a build together, just need to know your budget and if you need monitor, keyboard/mouse, windows license (and if you need home or pro).

hmm, well that's something I'm having trouble with, i don't want to build a 800 - 1000 dollar computer yet i don't want to build a computer that wont be able to do what i want it to do. But I'm still in the developing stage of this project.. sorry if i didn't entirely answer your question.
