So I've looked around pretty hard, looking at multiple websites for answers. Is it possible to move all of the components from an X51 to a new case, and to have them function? I've read that it works, and in other situations that it doesn't because of the OEM crap. Primarily just need the Ram, gpu and cpu working in a different motherboard. I really need a definitive yes or no answer so that I know what I need to buy and how much money to save up for the rest of this year.

Thank you in advance.

Did you call Dell and ask them if the components were soldered on or not?

The components aren't soldered. I've personally removed them multiple times just to get use to the case and the weird way that components are placed (Like the weird GPU bracket) so I know that they aren't fixed in place. But I've read that some people have issues that their Mobo won't recognize the current GPU (GTX555) on a different motherboard. I don't really have the fund available to just go out and purchase a new GPU that is better at the moment. I plan on doing a progressive upgrade of all the components and need to know if they're going to work.

I don't know what the inside looks like...but if everything is will move like you say it should...then I don't understand why there would be a problem installing everything differently (into different motherboard). I see others complaining about doing what you want to and having issues with that GPU not being recognized.

Unfortunately I have not found a thread that had the issue of the GTX 555 not being recognized, and the thread actually being solved with the problem fixed. So I could not find the solution to fixing the issue if you have one.

Even though it is supposed to work, you may end up having issues, since others have reported it. Since you need a definitive yes or no, in order to make a decision, you won't get a clear cut answer unfortunately because of others reporting the issue. You may have not problems, but you may be like some others and have issues. Have you considered taking the GPU out of the build and trying it in another build that you or someone you may know has? That way you can check that the GPU should work just fine in that circumstance. Just my two cents on that.

Otherwise I would recommend waiting to make a purchase of anything, so you are not without your system. Then when you get enough funds together, if you encounter any issues, you can immediately purchase a new GPU.

Wish I could be more help...but even though it should work just fine, others have stated having issues, so can't say you would have no problems.
