Tom's Guide is more focused on consumer electronics: smart phones, laptops, tablets, games, other fun gadgets. Tom's Hardware caters more to specific hardware components and more technical, in-depth material for enthusiasts. The separation might not be so clear right now, but we're working on it. One of the complaints has been that Tom's Hardware has started pandering to casual users and casual technology too much--Tom's Guide and the community (forum) over there is to help remedy that, to give the ever growing "casual" side of technology a dedicated outlet while also keeping Tom's Hardware focused on the hardware that appeals to enthusiasts.
