Core i7 Temperature Check (w/ Hyper T4)

Hello all,

I just put together my first PC build with following components:
-Core i7 4790K
-ASUS Z97 PRO WIFI AC
-G.SKILL RipJaws 2x4GB 1600 9-9-9-24
-Cooler Master Hyper T4 CPU Cooler

I am currently getting idle temperature of 33C which seems fine? However, once I start Prime95 Torture Test, my temps reach about 100C within about 15 seconds:

Is this normal?

That 100C is the throttling temperature of your CPU - your CPU's way of trying to preserve it's life against either a cooler that has been wrongly applied or is broken.

That link helped a lot! THank you. As the link stated, Prime 95 v28.5 is an unrealistic test (instead, it said to use v26.6). This brought my temperatures back to more normal values. However, shortly after, my motherboard threw an error. Ended up exchanging motherboard & cpu. Load temps are much better now (80C running v28.5 for 30 seconds).
