is a single gtx 970 good for 3 1080p monitors gaming

i have a mother bored that only support 1 gtx card i am looking at the gtx 970 because of its price but can it handle 3 1080p monitor gaming at ultra settings

Can it run 3 monitors? Yes.
Will it run on ultra? Yes.
Will it be enjoyable? No.
For ultra gaming on tri monitor, you'd need SLI setup. A single can do fine on medium-high with fine FPS though, due to 4GB VRAM

NoNo... Its the BEST GPU for that type of gaming! ... it completely out performs the GTX 770/780 and the R9 280X and 290 plus consuming much less power! dont think its an Overkill at all! if your budget can support it! Go for it!

HOWEVER! ... that being said 3 Screens is quite a lot! ... 3 screens on ultra wont work out ( it would work but you will feel/see some slowness or laginess ... if u get what im trying to say) :/ u would have to reduce some of the graphics

A single 970 isn't going to handle 5760x1080 on ultra and achieve playable fps. That resolution can bring sli'd 980s to there knees on many games.

Not much difference, proly a couple FPS on such a setup, would still not give playable FPS on high settings. I'd SLI 970s in that budget, would yield you MUCH better results.

GTX 980 would be 10-15% better, you really need a SLI setup for ultra gaming on tri display setup, or a R9 295X2 if you must get a single GPU, which won't be as good as SLI 980s, but will still be lot better than any other single GPU.

You would get better fPs at that resolution with a r9 290x
