Worthy GPU upgrade

Hi, I am looking for a worthy GPU upgrade as I'd like to run my games at higher res then currently available. My current set up is as follows:

MB: Asus M5A99X
GPU: MSI Radeon HD 7790 1GB
CPU: AMD FX 8350
Ram: 8GB ddr3
PSU: 700W rosewill

not sure if I can run nvidia on amd processor, any info on that is appreciated as well

Yes you can run nvidia gpu with amd processors and vice verse and get the gtx 970 (330$) or gtx 980 (550$) what ever your budget permits.
