Hey guys, I need your help,
I have narrowed my search of great GPUs to - R9 290 Tri-X and GTX 970 AMP! Extreme Edition.
Now, I already know that GTX 970 is more advanced, but my question is, which is faster?
A website, Game-Debate has a comparing system which shows that GTX 970 is faster. LinusTechTips, a YouTube channel came up with 2-3 benchmarks which showed GTX 970 as a "bit" slower. As for the pricing, both are having a same price tag. What's your opinion on which is faster?

the GTX 970 is better, but is the quality and brand? That is a different story altogether.

Sapphire vs Zotac...Zotac is ok but Sapphire in terms of quality is far better. As for the card, a GTX 970 would be better or 'faster'.

Well 970 is power efficient and runs cooler. But I would say go with r9 290 because it's great for the money and over the course of time their prices will decrease , so crossfire + . but gtx 970 prices will go high

Thanks for the quick reply guys. I am also very unlucky as there are only 3 editions of GTX 970 available here- GTX970 ZOTAC Omega Edition, GTX970 ZOTAC Extreme Edition, GTX 970 ASUS STRIX Edition. Game Debate also shows that ASUS Strix is slower than ZOTAC Extreme Edition (2%). I don't really care for quality as long as I get great performance. Don't you think that the technical specs of GTX 970 are way lower than R9 290? 1664 cores, 256-bit bus, 230GB/s memory bandwidth? Do you think that 256-bit bus will be able to take advantage of all 4GB memory?

The 256-bit bus has the ability to utilise up to 3.8GB of Vram, the lanes are often confused that there is a certain allocation of bandwidth that memory is associated with. If a 256-bit bus was an issue with the cards, Nvidia would not have used it.

Woah! Game-Debate has probably gone crazy! It says that GTX 970 ZOTAC AMP! Extreme is 5% better than R9 290X reference. This is crazy! This is impossible!

Saw some benchmarks from TechPowerUp! and I saw R9 290 eating dust from the GTX 970. Glad to see that it also beat the R9 290X in most of the benchmarks. Can't believe that this card is SO cheap!

Sorry, another question. ZOTAC EXTREME or ASUS STRIX? People say that ASUS STRIX is better but head to head comparison according to performance shows a 5% difference in which ZOTAC was better. The "Mini-Review" in the last section reads that Benchmarks show 7% better performance as opposed to 2% of ASUS STRIX

The amp extreme is excellent card. Zotac has great customer service and a great warranty. Most the people knocking it do not even know the company and have never owned a Zotac product.

Next to the EVGA FTW, the Zotac AMP Extreme has the highest factory overclock of any GTX 970 on the market.
