I have a Lenovo R61 laptop on which I want to install a brand new hard disk, Kingston SSDNow V300 (60GB, 2.5"), with Linux Mint.

I have a Linux Mint installation DVD. If I have the old hard disk installed, I can start from the DVD and get into Linux Mint where I can install it onto the old hard disk.
If I change the hard disk to the new SSD, the computer does only start partly from the DVD (selection screen appears), afterwards the computer restarts automatically. Changing in the BIOS (in the Serial ATA menu) from AHCI to compatibility did not change the behavior.

Any ideas how I can get Linux Mint installed on my new hard disk?

You might have to change the uefi bios into compatibility mode also.

Although I could not believe it in the first moment, it was a mounting problem of the SSD. Checking the adapter and inserting again, solved the problem! Thanks for your help.
