A lightweight camera for shooting life events on the go, HTC's RE packs a 16-MP sensor into a device the size and shape of a tiny periscope.

This doesn't seem like a particularly viable product. It's a $200 point and shoot camera without a screen and barely any other features. For its intended uses, it's not really all that compact either, and it's shape would undoubtedly make it awkward to carry in a pocket. The lack of screen could be justifiable if it were tiny like one of those keychain cameras, but it's not. To see what you're filming, you'll need to dual-wield a smartphone or tablet alongside it.
And while it may be water resistant to a few feet for a limited time, if that's what you're interested in, the GoPro Hero3: White edition costs the same and includes a case that's fully waterproof to 200 ft. It also similarly features an ultra-wide angle lense and wireless smartphone connectivity. And while they may claim to not be marketing it toward GoPro's market, if that's the case, who are they marketing it toward? Consumers who want to carry around a camera that's awkward to hold and use? I think they'll have a hard time selling it to people outside GoPro's market, just as they'll have a hard time competing with GoPro. If it were priced lower, it could potentially make a place for itself alongside flip cameras, but even those have small screens to keep them consumer-friendly.
