Moving on from my 7 year old Core2Duo Probably within the month unless there is a compelling reason to wait, say, around the holidays. I don't upgrade often as i don't like the hassle and apart from my GPU which was upgraded all else have not been changed. Hence my preference towards Gigabyte's UD boards.

Budget Range: around 550€

System Use: Gaming Hopefully High/Mid on 1080p on current games (GW2, Diablo 3, looking forward to GTA, Civ V and Beyond Earth), sound editing (Cubase 7.0), light video editing on 1920x1080 LG monitor

No peripherals or OS needed

Samsung EVO 840 120gb and a Gigabyte GTX 750 Ti 2gb already owned from another build

Parts Preferences: Intel, Gigabyte, Need an m.2 motherboard, Availability is short on options here anyway. The only H97 Boards with m.2 i can find is the Gigabyte listed and an ASROCK H97 KILLER . Then it's on to the Z boards.

What i've come up with:
CPU: Intel Core i5 4590 188.90
Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-H97-D3H 102.19
Memory: Kingston HYPERX FURY 8GB (2X4GB) DDR3 1866MHZ 79.48
Storage: Western Digital 1TB Caviar Blue Sata3 56.50
Power Supply: XFX TS 550W 63.37
Case: Corsair Carbide 200R 59.90

The above come just at the 550€ mark but i would consider going over it providing the reasons are valid.
Questions:
Is there a decent / cheap / quiet cooler to help keep the noise tolerable during workloads?
Is it worth it getting a z97 board now with view of upgrading to a k processor in a couple of years?
Gigabyte GA-H97-D3H 102.19
ASROCK H97 KILLER 119
GIGABYTE GA-Z97X-UD3H 145
As i plan to get a better GPU in time will the PSU be able to cover a 770 for example? Also, would it cope with OCing a k processor if/when i get one and another set of RAM sticks?

I will not put a gtx 770 with a 550 watt of PSU.

gtx 770,780 and 780 ti are all off production right now nvidia has stopped producing them as the new 900 series cards have taken their place so i would recommend you to increase your budget for the card by 50 $ and get the gtx 970 its even better than gtx 780 in performance and can run on a 500 watt PSU because of its low TDP.

i5 4690 is a great processor for gaming PC you cannot OC it as its locked processor but still its a beast and for gaming you dont need more than 8 gb of ram.

Yes it was the 970 i had in mind.
Since you made no remarks about the parts i listed i take it they are a solid choice for mid/high details.
The ram will probably come along the m.2 disk for my job part not the gaming.
And for the OC i was referring to if/when i upgrade to a k processor.
Also i would really like an opinion on whether it's worth getting the z97 board listed above now so when the time comes i'll only have to swap the CPUs

If you get the i5 4690k and decide to OC then you have to get the Z97 board for that and with Z97 board you can run the i5 4690.
