Hello everyone, I'm new to PC gaming and I just got an old Pavilion of mine(that was originally not working) upgraded and will be using that as my personal and gaming computer. It has a IPIBL-BL. Now since I just got this one fixed up, I don't plan on making any upgrades any time soon. However, I would like to ask what would be a good Micro-ATX motherboard for gaming purposes that's relatively affordable. I have another Pavilion that's about 2 years newer, and instead of simply upgrading it with the motherboard it has(forgot the name, will post it up later), I would like to modernize the motherboard and upgrade it from there. Also, if anyone would like to suggest a build to go along with the motherboard, that would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Affordable has different meanings to different folks. It would be best if you could put a dollar amount of the CPU/MB combination. And do you want AMD or Intel?

I really don't know much, but so I don't know much on what I would need exactly. I guess I would get an Intel, as I have heard more about them, but I am open to AMD. I don't have a budget, since it won't be a while before I will upgrade this computer, but I guess I would go with an Intel i5 or something equivalent to that. Also what is MB? do you mean megabyte? Btw the motherboard this Pavilion currently has is a M2N68-LA.

MB = MotherBoard

This is the lowest priced i5. Even the low end i5s are more than capable for all gaming. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E168...
This is a good quality low cost mATX motherboard that will work well with the Haswell 1150 socket i5 above. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E168...

I wouldn't spend too much upgrading an OEM PC like your HP.
You will need a gfx card as well. Do you already have one?

That's not bad. Thanks. and I don't have much of an idea on what I would do for a graphics card. Maybe a n AMD Radeon R9 270.

Not if you're still using the stock HP PSU. What is the nameplate rating for the +12V rail?

I dont know the name plate(would have to open up the PC) but it has 250W power supply.

Ow! You'll have to replace that if you want to do any serious gaming.

What power supply would you recommend, or least how many Watts?

Is your HP case full sized? Will it take a standard ATX power supply?
A R9-270 and an i5 would need something in the neighborhood of 500W to have a little headroom. Maybe 450W if it was high quality.

Alright thanks. Hopefully these things are cheap still when I do get started on this build.

If the only reason you are hanging on to the HP is for the case, I'd dump it and get a new one. You can get a decent low end retail case that is designed for builders for less than $50: http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductList.aspx?Submit=E...

Aright thanks for all the suggestions and I might, depends whats going on. In the current place we have this computer, a full size case wouldn't fit, but We may change things up the future. Thanks again.
