Hi

Am looking to upgrade my graphics card so i can play some better games (Trials: Fusion, Crysis 3 etc)

I have:

Gigabyte GA-UX58 UD5
believe this only supports PCi express 1.0
Intel 920 i7 2.67Ghz
18 GB Ram (I know, overkill but the upgrade from 6GB was free)
Geforce 9800 GTX+

I know PCi express is backwards compatible so was looking at GTX 760. Am i wasting my money? Should i be looking at something else?
Am looking second hand. My budget is £50-£75ish

Any opinions gratefully received.

Thanks

Yea i think the 760 might be a good choice. r9 280 might be ok as well. I wouldn't go much higher than that with your processor. After that I would start saving up for a new motherboard and processor.

EDIT: Just make sure your PSU has close to 500W available.

Actually, according to this: http://www.gigabyte.com/products/product-page.aspx?pid=... the MB supports PCI-E 2.0, not 1.0, which is a big bonus.
Have a look here: http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/gaming-graphics-card-revi... obviously the higher up you can go the better.
If you look for an AMD card be aware these cards need good coolers, don't get ANY with a single fan cooler and avoid the higher level XFX DD cards, I have a HD7950 XFX DD card and the cooler kept it below 75C under even heavy loads but was so noisy I quickly voided the warranty and swapped the cooler for something else.
I've just upgraded from an i5 750 (similar Quad to yours) and can tell you that at stock speed it held back a HD7950 quite noticeably so I'll suggest you look no higher than a HD7950/GTX760/R9 280.
And yes, I'll also suggest you look into overclocking the current i7, just look into it and decide if you want to improve the system performance that way.
Money's tight all round but I really think you should hold off a little longer and go for a new part-the GTX750 is a fine card-but it's obviously your decision.
