I haven't played WoW in few years, and just downloaded starter edition where you can play first 20 lvls. The game is same as many years ago (at least first 20 lvls) and fun to play.

I don't play often or a lot, and paying $15-$20 each month for subscription is not something I would like to do.

Are there any close alternatives to WoW which don't have monthly charges?

More about : alternatives world warcraft

Well depends if you are looking for more of the PVP like wow or you are just in it for the raiding.

Guild wars 2 there is no monthly fee's but there is a cost for the game. didnt like the PVP and there isnt healers its all more of self heals.

Never winter online is not bad i really did enjoy the gameplay but pvp wasnt all that great

you can always look through www.twitch.tv and watch people play MMO's to see what you find but WOW is still a solid MMO and expansion coming out soon.

Also i heard Everquest Next is in the making heard that will be fun.

Guild Wars 2 is a bit different since the holy-trinity (dps-heal-tank) is gone.

You should check out Archeage, I find it pretty entertaining and there is plenty to do, not to mention itt looks good.

If you look for a game that feels closer to WoW then try Rift. It went free to play about 2 years ago.

Or If you cant let the past go and/or WoW TBC was your favourite expansion then you should follow the Corecraft, it is a very ambitious TBC project.
