I'm not sure what's wrong with my computer and I need some help.

I installed a new gpu yesterday (gtx 970 strix), as my last one died. I've noticed this problem in games, as my framerate is now what I expect it should be. I go to play the new shadow of mordor game, and when I select "auto-config" it puts everything on the lowest settings. However, when I go into the NVIDIA GeForce Experience and use the optimal settings for the game it puts everything on ultra, which is what I believe it should be on.

When I load the game on ultra settings I can play for few seconds with amazing fps and graphics, before I get a windows error saying:

Your computer is running low on memory. Save your files and close these programs:
Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor"

I have since used memtest and the intel processor diagnostic tool just to see what might be the problem, but they both passed. Unfortunately I did have a trojan on my pc, which I have since got rid of. I have a feeling this is what's caused this issue, I just don't know how.

As a comparison; I have the game Team Fortress 2 on the lowest possible settings, with a special config designed to do that, running on directX8. When I'm playing I get around 120 fps, but it can dip to around 90 at points. I know this is nothing to complain about, but since I got my new gpu I was expecting the fps to be so much better than what it is. There might be something I'm missing, but this seems quite odd to me.

My PC:

GPU: GeForce GTZ 970 Strix
CPE: Intel Core i5-2320 @ 3.00GHz
Memory: 8.00 GB RAM
Motherboard: ASUS P8P67 LE
PSU: Corsair CX600M

I would greatly appreciate any help, as I want to use my new gpu to its fullest potential, but I don't want to if it may make things even worse.

If I've missed anything out please let me know and I will post what information is needed.

Thanks

Joe

Since posting this I have looked into making a paging file to see if that might fix it; I don't have a paging file at the moment. However, when I make one, and reset my computer as required, it doesn't recognise that I made one before the reset and it says I still have no paging file. After looking into this I realised on start up that it says "No hard disk detected!" even though my hard disk works fine and has done since I first installed it. I don't know much about computers, so would this be the underlying problem? If so how can I fix it?
