I want to upgrade my components. Should I go for a gigabyte gtx 970, or a gigabyte gtx 780. I do want to expand to SLI in the future.

Gigabyte gtx 970: http://www.gigabyte.com/products/product-page.aspx?pid=...
Gigabyte gtx 780: http://www.gigabyte.com/products/product-page.aspx?pid=...

Thanks.

Obviously the gtx 970 15- 20% better in performance than gtx 780 at low cost and low power consumption with lots of new features.
You can easily do a SLI setup with gtx 970 on a 700 watt PSU (145 watt TDP) but with gtx 780 you will at least need a 850 watt PSU for a SLI setup(250 watt TDP)

When in doubt, look at the benchmarks. If that doesn't work, go for the newer one.

If you want more help, post your whole system and we can check compatibility for you.
