I'm voting for the Intel build because of SSD :D  Otherwise, they provide same performance. Also, the Antec VP series is a strong, very good quality PSU unit, where Corsair CX series are not.

The first build has a better upgrade path and is better overall, although I would consider dropping the (not very good quality) SSD and using the $$ saved to invest in something of higher quality. For instance, with the amount saved from not having an SSD you could get an Intel i5 which is significantly better than pretty much any AMD CPU and any Intel i3, Pentium, Celeron and even be on par or better than a few Intel i7s (1st gen). Alternatively, by dropping the SSD you can invest into a graphics card where you will be able to play many games well and still have an upgrade path to something like an Intel Core i7 4790K.

Thank you both for the input!! How does this build look for just a little more than what I originally had?

Also, do I have to have a microATX midtower or can I just use a regular mid tower?

Any more opinions on this...I'd really like to start ordering soon. This is what I've kind of settled in on

That PC looks good. It depends on you where an mATX or ATX case is good for you. I bought the ATX Fractal Define Design R4 because it looks cool and stuff, and so that in the future I could eventually have a SLI or XFire-GPU PC.

This looks good too, with a more powerful processor. For this budget, the ATX type case is a little overkill. ATX cases should be preferred over mATX cases only when you system needs multi GPUs to fit in, more room for the pipes in liquid cooling system to fit in, multi-bluray/dvd burner bays, multi-HDD/SSD storage bays.
