Hello everyone,

I've just bought a new computer and it comes with a GTX 970 4GB but unfortunately the computer has been delayed as they're waiting for the part. The company I have ordered from has offered me an alternative and that is the Radeon R9 290 4GB. I would like everyone's opinion on which graphics card I should side with for gaming. I would like the graphics card to last me for as many years as possible so I personally sided with the 970 as it was released in September 2014 but I know that doesn't me s**t when it comes to performance etc.

Thanks

Kris

I would rather the 970, but if they offer a good version of the R9 290 then you wont be disappointed with that also. Its more important to get a 290 with a good cooler though, as the reference 290 cooler sucks, and its very loud.

The GTX 970 is a far superior card to the 290. It is also a superior card to the 290x. If it were me i would wait. Unless they are willing to cut the price.

I'd wait for 970 to be back in stock, it's a great card, and I'm assuming you know the pros. But 290 is in no way a weak card, it can still max out titles, you're looking for some extra frames with 970, if the cooler is good enough, like Tri X or Vapor X versions, feel free to get it, you can then OC it to close the gap. Also, make sure your PSU can handle it.
