Hi, all.

Well, after an arduous night, I finally got the latest version of my mobo's BIOS flashed. This was my first time performing this task. I admit I was somewhat apprehensive about doing it after all the horror stories I’d read of computers being rendered into bricks from failed flashes and so forth, but felt the need to do it in preparation of the new processor I’ll be installing soon. Also, I wanted very much to make a backup of the existing BIOS, but spent hours alone simply trying to get my USB stick to actually be functionally bootable (no floppy drive here), and was given no option to backup during the flashing process; therefore it was not done.

But at the end of the day, the update was completed successfully, and I proceeded on to rebooting the system after it finished. Everything seemed to be going good, but then, Windows Explorer dropped out and had to refresh. Could that be a sign of any problems with the updated BIOS? Or is it more likely related to me trying to access Computer Properties and clicking around elsewhere in Explorer while the OS had just loaded?... I think I know the answer already, but I'm all paranoid now that something's going to be wrong, after reading about the nightmare situations other people have experienced.

The BIOS version has been out for some time (years), so I would assume that if there were a real problem with it, another update would've been released by this point. Is that a fair assumption?

I guess I'm just looking for a bit of comfort and reassurance from you more experienced folks that I'm stressing over nothing. The behavior has not yet repeated since that first instance, and everything else seems to be running same as always so far.

Any insights and helpful words are greatly appreciated.

Thank you!

It's extremely unlikely to be related to the BIOS in any way. Just a Windows "glitch", nothing more. You can sleep easy!

Edit: as regards the last BIOS A06 release date (Feb 2011), factory-built computers typically don't get them as frequently as custom-built ones built around a retail motherboard and for which the BIOS updates are downloaded directly from the mobo manufacturer.
The BIOS on a factory-built computer tends to be very limited in user settings and options anyway.
