Hi all,

One of the pleasures of having a 3 year old daughter is that there's probably some more little accidents in the home than normally would be, and in my case it involves a freshly made cup of tea pouring itself entirely over an Asus laptop.

It was running on battery and turned off instantly. After drying out the battery with white rice, "draining" it out and leaving it sitting in front of an air conditioner overnight, it magically turned back on.

However the fan is quite loud (I'm writing this 2 months after the tea event), it's just getting to the point where I feel like it needs sorted.

The CPU seems to be cooling fine (using lm-sensors on Linux shows 48C), and I can feel a good channel of air coming out the vent...

I'm wondering whether some lubricant may have evaporated from being so close to an air conditioner? I'd rather not open my laptop up completely to get a more definitive idea as they seem to do a grand job of packing all that hardware in there.

Cheers for any pointers

I doubt proximity to an air conditioner is a primary cause. More likely to do with liquid ingress (and perhaps sugar?) causing issues. You may be looking at either minor obstructions impacting the fan blades? Guess you're going to have to open it. :)

Replacement fans aren't too expensive, though. If you're reluctant to do it, find a computer tech in your area that seems qualified.

Yes there was sugar, 2 spoonfuls in fact :)

Thanks, I'll probably take it in and get it looked at.
