Currently I am running @ 5040x1050 (1680x1050x3) from a HD6990. My original plan was to up grade to one of the new 34" 3440x1440 monitors, but I realize that my ol 6990 would not cut it, atleast not at high/ultra settings, as is the case now @ 5040. With that, I began looking at what the current generation cards were going for an Toms Best GPU for the $ article of the month refered the GTX970/980.
Now, the 970 is about $350 on any given site, and then the cost of the monitor being somewhere ~$700. That being said $1000 is already pushing the pissed off wife boundry. After looking at multiple different boards and websites, most of them show the same results. 1 x GTX970 isn't enough for the 3440 or 5040.
Now for the actual question. Should I forego getting a new monitor and just maximize the monitors I have now and get 2 x GTX 970's, and hope that the 3440 monitors come down in a year or 2?
