I was mostly playing. Gaming at 4k is a privilege for those with quite an amount of disposable income, and I'm not picking it up any time soon. And while I included a nice case in this "budget build" (lol) I probably would've built a desk case mod myself to showcase my parts under glass if I paid THIS much for my PC. Not that I'm not crazy enough to do it, just not rich enough. Anyway, just posting to share, feel free to discuss better build options or 4k gaming in general! I'd love to see some responses.

If you have the money to throw at it, go for it! Looks great!

However, I`m not sure the SLI scaling makes the 3`rd card worth it.
2-way SLI is great, and you see big performance gains. But when you add the 3`rd and 4`th, you scaling does down, and the added performance is surely not worth the premium.

Still, if you have the money to spend it, and you just want bragging rights, just pull the trigger and go ahead with it.
If you`re looking for more bang for your buck, God knows that there`s a lot of changes that can be done.

Well no way am I purchasing this; I was just playing with pcpartpicker again in lieu of helping my uncle build his new PC (replacing a $1000 budget build from 2009 with a $1200 build from 2014. Running with a 4770k and a GTX 970.)

Have any suggestions for changes? Keeping in mind the appropriate thread title: 4k for 4k.

Some articles with benchmarks comparing 980 SLI setups. Personally, I found the difference in about half the games out there at 4k to be substantial enough that, when trying to obtain playable, ultra-quality 4k resolution FPS, 3 could be considered the sweet spot. Some games just aren't playable at 2, like Crysis 3, which just peaks at 60fps with three-way SLI. If I were going to throw $4000 at a PC, I'd want it to be able to play ANYTHING without sacrificing options, at whatever resolution I wanted. That's why I personally budgeted for 3 cards in the 4000. Still curious about alternative suggestions for the $4k 4k PC, with similar or better real-world performance.
