I'm setting up a home network utilizing a Comcast cable modem. It is located on the first floor of the house. I have a wired network in the basement with 3 computers that need to be connected. There is only one wire from the first floor that goes between the floors. My current configuration is that I have the cable modem on the first floor and the WAN wire feeds a wireless router in the basement, which all of the computers connect to. The challenge is that the wireless signal dies as I get to the second floor. I'm a novice at this. What configuration and equipment would you suggest I use? The home is approximately 2800 sqft between the three floors.

Put the a new router on the first floor and connect the router in the basement to the LAN port of the first router. You are best off running the second router in the basement as a AP but you can run router behind a router if you like.
