Nvidia GTX 970 in short supply or manufacturing issues?

Hello,

I know the GTX 970 series has been out for over a month now, but after about two days, they seemed to sell out from every 3rd party supplier. Evga seemed to have quality issues in the manufacturing process, and at the time, their ACX 2.0 fan system was in short supply. Not to mention everyone else ASUS STRIX, MSI etc sold out very quickly aswell. Now, a month later, I can't find anyone with this card in stock other than amazon.com saying some of them will ship in 2-5 weeks depending on the brand.

Does anyone know what's going on? Are they in short supply, have manufacturing issues that have stopped production, upcoming revisions to design or chip architecture? What gives?

As far as I know they are in very high demand. The price/performance is excellent.

I ordered the Asus from Amazon October 7th and they don't have one ready yet (October 27th.) There's quite a line I think.

EDIT: Spoke too soon, literally just received an email that it's shipped, should be here in two days. Maybe the waits that long; maybe it'll be shorter now though! They're still out of stock though.
