Is it possible to Connect 20 monitors to one computer?

I'm trying to build a low budget computer lab for my class that would allow me to easily transfer files between my computer and each of my student's. To do this I was wondering if I could use one computer and connect up to 20 or more monitors, or if I have to buy and install a computer for each student and connect them with a cloud. I don't plan to give them internet access or run anything more than Word or MS Paint.

You're actually asking two different questions here.

1. Can you hook up a whole bunch of monitors to one device? Sure. Go into any store that sells TV's. You see all of them running the same display.

2. Can your students run actual individual applications, all running off a central box? Yes, but it is NOT cheap or easy.
Thin clients, all running back to a LARGE server. Probably cost more than 20 individual low end boxes.

What I listed before is what we used at Church but we turned 4 donated systems into 20 stations using that software and 20 USB terminals.


Appearently you can do it with one computer using Plugable DC-125 USB 2.0 Multiseat Zero Client, Windows Multipoint Server 2012 or Fedora 18
