MSI R9 280X keeps changing between 3.0 and 2.0

When I play bf4 my R9 280X keeps alternating between gen 3 and gen 2 bus speeds, it's really annoying. I have gen 3 enabled in my mobo, any bottlenecks?.

Yes, It could be something to do with WIndows 8.1 I guess?, I heard something about a registry patch once. But it didn't work for me because the damm OS grants administrative permissions to the system.

Have you tried using different GPU driver? AFAIK the bus speed will change to lower bus because of power saving feature. For example on idle the reading will be 1.1 (meaning the bus run at pcie v1.1 x16 speed). I don't know for radeon is there option in catalyst to force GPU to use maximum power instead of adaptive? In idle the power saving feature will still working but when running games it should force the game to run at it's full speed.

Yeah that's what I'm trying to figure out you see, It does it in games aswell, so frustrating. And sometimes it sits at 501mhz clock speeds and refuses to peek at the full 1020mhz like it's supposed too.

Try running program like heaven unigine to stress out the GPU and see if similar problem happen
