Hello everyone, I have been wanting to buy myself a decent gaming rig for a while now. I finally have enough money and this is what I have came up with :-

CPU: NEW! Intel Core i5 4690
CPU Cooler: Zalman CNPS10X Optima
Operating System: Windows 8.1 (64-bit)
Motherboard: NEW! Gigabyte Z97-HD3
RAM: 8GB Corsair 1600mhz Vengeance (2x4GB)
Hard Drive: NEW! Crucial 512GB MX100 SSD
Optical Drive: 22x DVD±RW DL S-ATA
Graphics card: NEW! NVIDIA GeForce GTX 970 4GB
Sound card: Onboard 7.1 Audio
Case: Cooler Master 690 III
PSU: 650W Corsair RM Fully Modular

First thing I want to ask is, have I made any glaring mistakes that anyone can see? Is everything compatible with each other with no bottlenecks? Is the CPU cooler adequate for me CPU? Is the motherboard I have chosen suitable for my needs etc, etc? I have researched every component the best I can although a lot of what I read was way past my level of understanding

Not much of a point in getting a Z series board for a non-overclocking chip. I also recommend a storage drive for backup, since you have a large SSD. Here is a counter-build -
