Best way to connect graphic card to monitor

Would it matter that the monitor is DVI-D and the graphics card is DVI-I (GeForce gt440 2gb 128 bit) I know I will need an adapter. Also the graphics card has HDMI. Would it make sense to go from DVI-D (monitor) to graphics card HDMI. Don't know which way would be better.

electrically HDMI and DVI are virtually identical, there is no image quality issue.

you won't need an adaptor as DVI-I is analogue and digital.
