Dual monitor setup help.

Hey guys I was given a second monitor today and I wanted to set it up as a secondary desktop. Currently my primary monitor is an 32' LG LCD hooked up to my amd GPU via HDMI. This new monitor is a 23' Dell monitor that uses a blue DVI cable. My GPU a Radeon HD 6790 only has a HDMI and a White DVI hookup so I pit the blue DVI into my main board. My computer recognizes the second monitor but the monitor stays in sleep mode. (The light goes from green to yellow quickly) So from this point I'm stumped and have no idea what to do! Never used a dual monitor setup before. Any help would be appreciated and thank you in advance!

UPDATE: Oddly my CCC detects it as an unknown monitor and says disabled but my device manager doesn't even show it.

UPDATE: I worked out how to use my integrated gpu to run my second monitor via bios. All seemed to go well but went the second monitor started and I could see my desktop I got a BSOD. Any ideas?

well, i know most new radeons at least come with a vga to dvi adapter, it might be worth looking for that if you got one.
