Hi,
I'm stuck between choosing the right CPU for gaming.
By the way, hope 2x4GB RAM will be enough for the future :)
The rest of the rig is:
Gigabyte G1. Sniper H6 board (H97 chipset)
Sapphire Radeon Tri-X 290 OC edition
Gelid Tranquillo 2

i5-4590 (3.3/3.7 Boost frequency) for 170€
i5-4690 (3.5/3.9 Boost frequency) for 189€
i5-4690K overclockable (3.5/3.9 Boost frequency) for 207€

If I will buy i5-4690K, I will overclock it only slightly without voltage increasing. Maximum frequency should be then 4.2GHz

According to some reviews what I've found 4.2GHz overclocking brings in comparision with i5-4690 stock frequency in most cases about 10% frame increase. Sometimes it is 15%.

I know Mantle and DirectX12 should bring some requirment reduce for the CPU in load.

Which one would you choose?

Do you think it's not worth to buy i5-4690K if I'm planning to overclock it max. on 4.2GHz or less?
Is better to buy i5-4690 than i5-4590 in price/performance ratio? Can I feel lack of the 200MHz in games?

So, you think i5-4690K is not worth if I will overclock it only on 4.2GHz frequency?

Not only do I agree with CoolCole01, but the i5 4690k will cost you a lot more than just the price difference between that and any other processor you listed. Why? Cos your Mobo is an H97 mobo, which is incapable of overclocking a CPU. A Z97 however can overclock it, but that'll require you to change your mobo. If changing your mobo isn't an issue and you overclock your CPU more than your current intentions are, then 4690k is the best buy in terms of performance, but if you don't want to change the mobo, go for 4690 non-k. :)

In my opinion even the 4590 will be enough for gaming. GPU is the most important part so what you really need is for your CPU not to bottleneck your graphics card. i5-4590 won't do that.

Now if you want to go a model higher and get 4690 I would jump straight for the K version and overclock it a bit. But then again you will need to upgrade your motherboard to a Z97 chipset (unless you want to play with this BIOS upgrading etc - it is possible to OC on H97 but it's a lot harder).
