I'm currently looking for a monitor to upgrade from my current 2007/8, sub $150, 21inch 1080p, LG lcd monitor(not even led backlit), lg22w53.

I'm from the Philippines and unfortunately these are my only choices: u28d590d vs U2713HM vs PB278Q.

What would be the best monitor in this kind of usage:

Gaming(PC i5 4670k/970GTX + PS4): 50% - more on PC gaming really, since I don't like most of the console exclusive games currently released.
Internet: 25%
Movie: 25%

I'm thinking of getting the u28d590d against the other 2, since it is 4K, but I would like to know if playing in the 27inch u28d590d @ only 1080p/1440p max detail would be the same as playing in a 27inch native 1080p/1440p monitor max detail. Since my current 970gtx might not be able to handle 4k in the coming months(even now - in some games).

Also, if U2713HM or PB278Q would be a better choice considering my videocard, are these 2 monitors still great? Since I think both of these monitors have been in the market for sometime(3yrs+?) now, maybe some newly released monitor with a newer technology would be better than them and with the same price.

I would say go with the Dell U2713HM, the response time is a bit slower compared to the PB278Q but it is an IPS screen so much better colours. Since half of your time is not gaming go for the monitor that has better colours, and higher brightness.

Don't go for the 4K monitor for the time being. While the GTX 970 is a good card its still not gonna do ultra settings at 60fps for games at the moment. No point in 4K if your card is stuggling to output to it.

I see, thanks for the response. Would the color detail be that much different for the U2713HM vs u28d590d? As for the 4k gaming, I'm actually planning to do a 1080p gaming for the u28d590d since I've read 1080p would be the most compatible lower resolution for a 4k display.

I'm not really an FPS/shooter gamer(PH - bad internet connection) so the response time is also not my concern, though I'm coming from a 2ms monitor so I'm not sure if I'll notice some lag, etc.

But it actually makes sense, since I don't really have anything to do with 4k aside from internet browsing. :p

Is the U2713HM still one of the best for its price (around 550usd), even in the US/Europe? (not including the korean-non-lg/samsung brands)

Yeah usually Dell Monitors are held in high regard in terms of colour accuracy and brightness. I had an Apple Display 20" the number of colours that it can support is noticable. I was doing a colour panel game that tests the colours on your screen (basically you get 4 squares and you have to see which one is different from the rest in terms of colour) while it was easy enough to get to like level 30 on the IPS screen, my LED screens never made it past level 15.

U2713HM it is then. Though I'll just need to see it in the actual store since I've read U2713HM suffers from cross hatching, though I don't know how to check it, since pictures of the problem does not really show them clearly.

What test would you suggest to do before buying? That may be done on a default installation of Windows 7/8? Since the store might demo it with a default machine.

Btw, if anyone is wondering the 3 monitors are sold by different stores so I can't do a side by side comparison. :|
