I have a pretty crappy 1024x720p monitor right now. I was wondering is it worth it to get a 1080p monitor now and get a less powerful PC?
If not getting the new monitor I would get:
I5 4670k/R9 270x/8GB RAM
If I get the 1080p monitor I would have to spend quite a bit less on the PC and probably get something like
FX8320/R7260x/8gbRam
I was just wondering is it worth it, because if I get the cheaper PC it will barely be able to manage 1080p whereas if I wait to get the monitor and get a better system I can jump right into the 1080p goodness when I get the funds.
Thanks :)

Well, the FX8320 CPU will get the job done for gaming (yes, the 4670K IS faster, but won't make a huge difference in gaming). Then the only difference if the 260x vs 270x, I'd hold off the whole purchase till you can afford the 270x or MUCH better yet a 280x. The other option, connect your system to an HDMI input on your TV till you save up for monitor.

OR, just buy a Used monitor. With 24inch 1080P monitors going for as little as $119 (on NewEgg), used ones would be like $40--$50.

well if your gaming you really need to be on a 1080p monitor. a 1080p 24" monitor typically go for 130-150 dollars. so you need to upgrade it anyway i i really suggest you get a 24".

on the pc side i suggest building an intel rig with a MUCH better upgrade path. now what you need hardware wise greatly depends on your budget and what level of quality you are gaming and an in general what games you are actually playing to make sure it meets your 1080p needs. what is your total budget for new monitor and computer? do you need an operating system?

My budget is €650 and would be great if it was all from Amazon UK. I do need an OS but I already have a harddrive and PSU.

ah unless you can hook your pc up to a tv. then could get a better graphics card, and get a 1080p or maybe even a 1440p monitor later down the road

and make sure your power supply has the pin power connectors to support graphics card.
