How to use tv as a second monitor?

Hello

I want to use my led tv (40 inch) as a second monitor. What I mean is when I had my laptop I could hook up an old monitor to it and us it as a dual screen. So basically I could go with my mouse on my laptop to the far right of the screen and it would pop up on the other monitor.

I have mine connected through hdmi cable this time. However I can't seem to get it to so that I can use my mouse on both screens. I can duplicate and I can use my tv as a monitor but it opens everything on my monitor.

If anyone gets what I mean, is there a way to use it as I want?

Extend the desktop instead of duplicating it in the options. Drag window or w/e to tv.
Re-arrange them so left and right make sense.
