Worth buying Windows 8.1 if I already have a copy of Windows 7?

Hello everyone,

I'm currently buying parts for a new gaming build. I had initially planned on putting Windows 8.1 on it, but I remembered that I have a copy of 7 that I could transfer from another computer.

I've done a bit of searching, and it seems there is some ambiguity around whether 10 will be a free upgrade.

At this point, is it worth spending the extra money on 8.1? I'd rather save it, if possible.

Heck no. That would be a waste of good money and a legal copy of win7.

Win10 will definitely not be a free upgrade.

If you have a legit copy of Windows 7 then Windows 10 "is" a free upgrade. I have already done the upgrade on a Windows 7 laptop I own. I certainly wouldn't buy Windows 8.1 at this point, if you have to buy, then buy Windows 10; but Windows 10 should be free for you.
