FX-8320 (3.9) 8gb of DDR3 RAM @ 1600Mhz MSI GTX 970 4gb Gaming (Factory) 750
Watt EVGA Power supply Asus Sabertooth R2.0 MoBo Windows 8.1

I'm currently in the market for a 27" monitor running at 1920x1080. I currently have a 23" Acer.

I play a lot of games, and prefer to run them at ultra thanks to my new GTX 970. I'm looking in the $250 price range. I play pretty much every genre of game if that matters. What are some necessary attributes that my new monitor needs to have to give me a good experience when I game or watch movies? What's the big deal about things such as: IPS, contrast ratio, Pixel pitch, hz, and response time (I kinda know about this one)? Would dual monitors be a viable choice if I wanted to later grab a second one? I don't plan on buying a second GTX 970 anytime soon though. I'll list my requirements at the end of this post, and if you have any tips or notices of things that I needn't be concerned about, please let me know! Thanks for the help!

About $250
27"
Good for Gaming and Movie watching
VESA mountable
1080p (unless you have a better recommendation)
Fairly Slim bezel/ thin frame (compared to my current monitor)

1. Samsung 27-Inch Wide Viewing Angle LED Monitor (S27D360H) - http://www.amazon.com/Samsung-27-Inch-Viewing-Monitor-S27D360H/dp/B00IEZGY7G/ref=sr_1_12?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1415776483&sr=1-12

2. ASUS VS278Q-P Ultrafast 1ms 27-Inch LED-Lit Monitor - http://www.amazon.com/VS278Q-P-Ultrafast-27-Inch-LED-Lit-Monitor/dp/B009HNEBLK/ref=sr_1_6?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1415776483&sr=1-6

3. HP Pavilion 27xi 27-Inch Screen LED-lit Monitor - http://www.amazon.com/HP-Pavilion-27-Inch-LED-lit-Monitor/dp/B00B332A9C/ref=sr_1_3?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1415776483&sr=1-3

- The above are some of the best 27-Inch monitors for Gaming and Movie watching . All fall under your budget also . Go with anyone which you like most .

-- Here are some tech-specs of monitors explained --

IPS - Another popular LCD technology is In-Plane Switching, or IPS, which improves upon TFT by offering much wider viewing angles and color reproduction on LCD screens. IPS screens are able to achieve this by keeping all the liquid crystals parallel to the screen.

Contrast Ratio - The contrast ratio is a property of a display system, defined as the ratio of the luminance of the brightest color (white) to that of the darkest color (black) that the system is capable of producing. A high contrast ratio is a desired aspect of any display. It has similarities with dynamic range.

Pixel pitch - In the case of an RGB color display, the derived unit of pixel pitch is a measure of the size of a triad plus the distance between triads.

Refresh Rate - The refresh rate (most commonly the "vertical refresh rate" ) is the number of times in a second that a display hardware updates its buffer.

Also, i know getting Dual monitors sounds interesting but some will like a big single monitor with high resolution setup . Some like this way , some like that way . So, it's totally on your preference .

Thanks a bunch for the quick response and answering all of the questions I had about the attributes of a monitor. I'm seriously considering the Asus. I have a fairly large desk, but also some very large front speakers for my 5.1 system (sound is my specialty), so dual monitors may not be the best option. As Dariens007 posted below, maybe a 1440p monitor would be a good choice. Would any fall into my price range?

This is out of my price range, but if it is worth it, then maybe I'll. wait and get this one. http://www.amazon.com/PB278Q-27-Inch-LED-lit-Professional-Graphics/dp/B009C3M7H0/ref=sr_1_1?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1415821635&sr=1-1&keywords=ASUS+PB278Q+27%22+WQHD+LED+Monitor

Any that might fall at least $100 to my price range within those requirements I originally posted? And thanks for the response.
