Hello everyone!

I've used this site plenty of times in the past for computer related questions and advice, but I've never used the forums, so this is my first post!

I'm going to be building myself a computer in the near future (waiting to see what deals I can possibly get through the end of November) and was wondering what you guys think about what I have so far (I'm fairly certain it's all compatible)? I've built two computers already (including my current one, 4-5 years old now), so the installation won't be an issue, I'm just a bit out of the loop with all these new components!

I don't really have a budget, was aiming for around $1500, although I don't mind going over if it means future proofing for a while longer. Here's where I'm at:

CPU - Intel Core i7-4790K 4.0 GHz Quad-Core ($330)

HEATSINK - Noctua NH-U14S ($70)

MOBO - Asus Maximus VII Hero LGA 1150 Intel Z97 ($205)

GPU - EVGA 04G-2974-KR GeForce GTX 970 Superclocked 4GB ($350)

RAM - G.SKILL Ripjaws X Series 16GB (2 x 8GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 2133 ($175)

SSD - SAMSUNG 850 Pro Series 2.5" 256GB SATA III ($180)

HDD - WD Blue 1 TB Desktop Hard Drive: 3.5 Inch, 7200 RPM, 64 MB Cache - WD10EZEX ($55)

PSU - EVGA SuperNOVA 750 G2 220-G2-0750-XR 750W ($110)

CASE - Cooler Master HAF X ($170)

Total = $1645

No plans currently for overclocking the CPU unless it's necessary, but I tried to build around that possibility... just in case ;)

Any advice/comments/recommendations/etc would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks

Looks good to me.

You should be abe to save on the ram.
You should be able to save on the ssd,a crucial mx100 or samsung evo would already do fine.
You also picked quite the expensive motherboard so there's money to save as well.

Hey Vic, thanks for the response!

Do you have any suggestions for those other two components that wouldn't affect performance?

Also, for an ODD, I was thinking of just using an external one, since I'd probably only be using it for the OS and occasional game if I got a physical copy for some reason. Any recommendations?

Awesome, thanks Vic!

Unless I can get a good deal through cyber monday I'll probably drop to the Samsung 840, and a less expensive motherboard!

Appreciate the help :p
