Hello,

I'm currently using a 60Hz monitor, but my fps output is way higher then 60, causing screen tearing. This is starting to bother me a lot and I'm wondering if a 120Hz/144Hz monitor would fix this problem?

If it does, any recommendations for a cheap good 120Hz/144Hz monitor?

My rig (if needed):
R9 290 Tri-X 4GB
i7 4770k 3.5GHz
8GB DDR3 1600MHz

if you have a 60 hz monitor then the best way to have fun with your games without screen tearing is to turn on V sync. Get 144hz if you have a trained eyes, or else you will be like most people and cant tell the difference. Ive played cs for 12 years, therefore my eyes are trained to react quick. Even at 144hz I can still see a bit of tearing, when I move quick.

Could you elaborate? What do you mean with trained eyes?

If you have been playing a fast paced games like fps games in general, your eyes are adapt to faster responses of the monitor than normal people. For example, if you were to tell parents to play Call of duty on a 60hz vs a 120/144hz they will not be able to tell the difference because they are already used to the 60hz. They don't see any types of lag. Say if you play league of legends your whole life, you wont ever need a 144hz. Even if you were to get a 144hz monitor, you wont be able to tell the difference. But yea the easy solution to your problem is play with Vsync on.

Except Vsync produces stuttering. You will be able to tell the difference between a 60hz and 144hz monitor easily if the game supports it.. If you are used to 60hz then wont it be easier to spot a difference? The difference is night and day and it is completely different than Vsync, especially if youre pulling way over 60 fps.

Vsync will make the game smooth, if he plays fps then I wouldnt recommend it. If he wants to solve the tearing problem then Vsync would help. Stutters only happens when fps drop below 60. And trust me many people cant tell the difference. You should look it up.

I would say V-sync is deffo worth a go before forking out money for a new screen at least - may save the OP a fair bit of cash if he finds it acceptable, and if it doesn't solve the problem he's lost nothing.
