Hey Tom's Hardware community!

I feel like I'm finally ready to build my first PC. I've done significant research, and Tom's has been my best resource, so thank you!

I'm looking for input on the following build. I'm attempting to build a gaming PC that will run ultra on most games at 1080p, and possibly support up to three monitors. I'd like the option to SLI in the future, and I'm not particularly concerned with OC'ing, unless someone's input inspires me otherwise.

Here is the build thus far (approx. $1200 budget, though less would be nice):

Monitor: Asus VS248H-P 24-Inch

Case: Corsair Obsidian 550d

MOBO: ASUS Z97-A ATX

CPU: Intel Core i5-4690 (3.9 GHz)

SSD: Samsung 840 EVO (1TB or 500GB)

GPU: EVGA GeForce GTX 970 ACX 2.0 FTW

PSU: Corsair Professional Series HX 850 Watt

Wireless adapter: Asus (USB-AC56)

RAM: Kingston 1333 MHz 16gb (from my current build, no link)

So basically, I'm really just looking for input, advice (save money, better mobo, something important that's missing, etc?). Really any input would be helpful. Oh, I also plan to use fans for cooling.

I'm a bit nervous about this purchase. I've been revising it for about a year, but I think it's finally time!

Thanks for any help!

Great Ram, had the same for 3 years and never failed me.

I personally think 850w is overkill, has I have been told. 650w should be enough. I bought a GTX 970 and have a 650W power supply.

Great gpu, wouldn't change. Bought the MSI one and still waiting for it. Good for 1080p single monitor. If you're going for 1440p or 4k or something, the 980 might be better. The 970 will sure play games on ultra tho.

Great cpu, wouldn't change.

I would take a 240GB SSD or less + an HDD, but it all comes to preference.

Case looks nice, even though 150 sounds pricey.

Great mobo, good that it can support sli if you ever find the need to sli dat 970. Great futureproof chipset.
Never felt like needing to OC but is sures is nice to have the option for around the same price.

For fans, you can go for coolermaster's standard fans at 10 bucks each, or better quality corsair fans. But I just bought some Noctua to reduce the noise.

I would recommend an after market cpu cooler for noise and temperatures. Not necessarly water cooling but there's a few good cpu cooler like the CoolerMaster 212 Evo. Imo, Noctua makes some amazing coolers despite the color of the fans. Not to pricey too.

Planning on using CDs?
