I have a Dell XPS 8300 (i7-2600/16GB RAM/PCIe) which I'm looking to upgrade. I primarily use it for working with two 27" LCD's, but I do game on it from time to time. At some point I pulled the ATI 6450 it came with, for use in my HTPC, and replaced it with an old NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GT. I mostly play older RTS games, such as AOE3, but I'd like to be able to run some newer games with on higher settings, such as Borderlands 2.

I know I'm not a serious enough gamer to make an expensive card worth the cost. The fact I've been getting by with the 8800 GT is proof of that, knowing I could buy almost any card off the shelf now and double it's performance. Are there any cards in this category that wouldn't be compatible with my PCIe x16/x1 motherboard?

I don't know the various price points of the cards now days, but I'm a value shopper. If I can get a good card for $100, or a great card for $130, I won't hesitate to spend the extra.

What would you guys recommend?
