Hi all,

Im searching for a single video card that will be able to support two Dell 4k Monitors. I don't plan on gaming with my build, but i will be using it to look at large pictures, videos, charts, diagrams, images and etc. Which video would be best suited for my needs? I would like to stay in the $350-$500 price range, but willing spend more if it means i can use one video card instead of two.

I have been looking at the GTX970 and GTX980, but it only supports a resolution of 4096 x 2160. To support two 4k displays, i would need a video card that supports 7680x4320 right? Thanks for your help in advance!

So will the GTX970 be able to fit my needs? The GTX980 is about $200 more, so i would rather get the GTX970 if it is sufficient. My main concern is if i am running two 4k Display off the GTX970, will there be any lag when i am moving items around in the desktop or watching videos? If i do basic 2D and 3D cad, will it lag? I currently have an ASUS X99-A, i7-5930K, and 16 GB of RAM.

The GTX 970 should handle your needs. However, if you are into heavy 2D, 3D desigining and other software for productivity, there are Quadros from Nvidia, FirePro from AMD but these are out of your budget. You shouldn't see any lag accross your screens. I don`t think the performance gains from spending 200$ more on the GTX 980 is worth as the GTX 970 can be overclocked to reach near performance. I would add an SSD to your build to install your operating system on as it makes a huge difference in booting and applications loading times.

Thank you! I dont mean any disrespect, but how did you come to the conclusion that the GTX770 will be able to support two 4k displays? Are you able to tell by the core clock or something? I basically just want to learn how you came to that conclusion in case a question like this pops up again.

I think you mean the GTX 970 since the 770 only has 2GB VRAM (it has 4GB variants though). Any card that supports a 4K resolution would be able to handle desktop usage just fine but if you are going to game that's where it becomes demanding. 4K gaming on 1 GTX 970 isn't optimal and 2 would be better. Programs like Autocad can make usage for 4GB of VRAM easily but it's the best we can do with that budget.
