Tips for Protection against ESD

I've heard from many people that ESD isn't very likely and hasn't ever effected them, but I would just like to be safe and be sure that no damage will be done. I recently bought a anti static wrist strap but since my case is painted inside and out I don't think that will work. Is there anywhere else I could clip it to, or do to ground myself?

It's usually enough to ground yourself on any exposed metal surface first (just touch the surface to discharge yourself)

I've heard you can touch the screw on a wall outlet cover as well. Would that work?

No. Those aren't grounded usually; they're just screwed into plastic.
