My Specs:
Intel 4670k at stock speeds
ASUS Z87
EVGA 970 GTX
16 GB CORSAIR DDR 3 AT 1600

I currently use a Samsung LCD at 1920X1080 to run all of my games at max settings. Will buying a monitor with 144hz kill my frames? or affect my systems performance much? I really hate the idea of getting a 2nd GPU, but I do like the idea of a better experience with a monitor capable of 144hz.

Here is the monitor I am talking about:

Hell, if you can afford it, go SLI. Your CPU is just fine, overclock it a little though just to squeeze that extra performance out of it. For pushing those extra frames the GPU is going to help you more than your CPU in almost every case.

I don't know what you mean. You won't be able to run all games at 144Hz but I own one with a GTX 780 and it's great. I find I get less screen tearing and games like CS:GO and other not so graphically demanding games look awesome. Even hitting 100fps is great if you turn vsync off. Otherwise you'll be getting 72fps in most games.
