Hi,

I ordered an Asus Z97-A motherboard and an Intel i5 4690k cpu. I just wanted to know if I will need to update the bios when I will build my pc. So will it work normally? This is my first time building a pc so I'm a bit of a noob with this.

Thanks for answering!

Depends look at the sticker on the mobo when you get it. The last 4 numbers under the barcode is the version of the BIOS

If it doesnt say 1008, or higher, then it needs a BIOS update

Core i5-4690K (3.5Ghz, 4C, L3:6M, HD Graphic, 88W, rev.C0) ALL 1008

And if it needs an update you'll have to take it to a shop

I think the 1008 update was for stability on the Z97 platform.
And even, by chance, it's not compatible, ASUS motherboards has EZFlash.
No need for a CPU to update the BIOS.

The 4690k will be supported no matter which BIOS you have since it's a Z97 chipset.

If there are any BIOS updates for it to improve stability, you can use your i5 to access the BIOS and update from there. You don't need to take it to a shop.

edit: lol looks like TheMentalist beat me to it.
