New GPU, no signal from the monitor (blank). HELP!!!

Hello, first time here! I consider myself better than the average person with technology, but do not consider myself a pro in any way. Well, I bought a new PC about a few months ago (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16883229362) and loved it. Recently I purchased an new GPU (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814487024), I tried to the best of my knowledge to make sure that it was compatible with my PC, and I still believe that it is compatible. If it isn't then what would be a good GPU replacement? I do like to play games on my PC and I'm not looking to play Crysis 3 on max, just Skyrim and others on at least high. But when I install my new GPU, I hear the PC boot up and the little beep that says it's okay along with every fan spinning (including the new GPU) and the keyboard lights light up. Yet my monitor stays blank. I tried to install the GPU onto my families PC and their monitor comes on but freezes in about 3-8 seconds. I have scoured the internet looking for a solution and have found many problems similar to mine, but none of those solutions work. Is the GPU faulty? Is it not compatible? Any help is greatly appreciated.

Sorry for the late response, I didn't think anyone read this. But, yes I did plug it into the card and I used the VGA port. When that didn't work I used a VGA to HDMI adapter and the screen was still blank.
