Low Latency and Timing or High Mhz? Need help to buy!

Dear all

I'm building a new computer - and the only thing I'm really unsure about is the RAM, so I hope you can help me. The Ram is for OC.

My computer:
Intel Core i7-4790K
Cooler Master Nepton 280L
ASUS Z97-DELUXE, Socket-1150
Corsair Corsair HX750i, 750W PSU
MSI GeForce GTX 980 Gaming 4GB PhysX
I need 16 GB of RAM

Is it better to have a low Latency and Timing than a higher MHz? (1600 MHz Vs 1866 MHZ Vs 2133 MHz Vs 2400 MHz)

Many different opinions on this subject... calculations would suggest upping the MHz and the timing makes it the same as a lower MHz with lower timing. Honestly, very few setups I've seen are actually impacted by RAM choices like this. You're dealing with differences in milliseconds if online calculators are correct. I would personally go with the 1600 due to the flat 9 timing, but the 1866 is very close, probably the next best. Getting more RAM will help if both are dual channel. If you have 4 x 4GB dual channel or 2 x 8GB dual channel it won't matter. Since the board only support dual channel, get the cheaper RAM.

Also, the best RAM would be the lowest timing, highest MHz you can find. From what I've seen, Corsair doesn't even get close in this department. Technically there's DDR4 RAM out there too, but nobody uses it widely yet.

Any of those RAM picks would be good. Keep in mind that you will probably have to OC the CPU some for memory faster than 1866MHz. And it is better to get a 2x8GB kit. Less stress on the CPU that way. Plus there's room for more if you want to go that route in the future.

Myself, I am seriously happy with Corsair Vengeance Pro 2x8GB @ 1866MHz.

A higher data rate is usually preferable to tighter timings, but data rates that exceed that natively supported by the memory controller can require additional tweaking beyond simply enabling the XMP profile (if present).

G.Skill, Crucial, Mushkin... I would prefer all these due to better or same quality RAM for the same price, if not less.

2400/10 is the best of these, very similar performance wise to the Vengeance Pro from Corsair and just a bit below the GSkill Tridents (am currently testing a bunch of 2400/32 GB sets at both 32GB and 16GB on Intel vs AMD rigs), the set should easily run at 2133/9 and maybe 2133/8 which is far better than the rest.... Thus far in my testing the Tridents are #1
