Crossfired AMD Radeon HD 7770's but only one is active at all times

I have two crossfired Asus AMD Radeon HD 7770's 2GB, but only one of them is active at all times, meaning that I can't have one monitor plugged into one and the other monitor into the other card. The monitor plugged into the inactive card just stops functioning and switches to my secondary monitor. Is that just how these cards function? I know computers fairly well, but video and graphics cards are my least known subject. If there is at all a fix where I can have 2 monitors plugged into separate cards, I would love to know. Thanks!

Disable Crossfire and the cards should run independently allowing you to run one monitor from each.
